About the opportunity

We are seeking an Operations Coordinator to manage general administrative and operational support including preparing documents, responding to complex queries and sourcing solutions for the work area. This position reports to the School Manager for Sydney Medical School and manages a complex range of project areas across our school including the award of academic titles, research grant requests, school events, school awards and support for the Post-Graduate Coursework and Medical Program teams.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	provide high quality, efficient organisational support and administration operations services to Sydney Medical School.
	management of a range of projects as required by the Head of School and Dean, and the School Manager.
	management of appropriate school events including the Sydney Medical School retreat, awards events and whole-of-school meetings.
	assist the Head of School and Dean to manage the academic promotions process for Levels A to C, including responding to broad ranging enquiries from staff across the faculty in line with university policy and procedure
	coordinate the management of the Academic titles applications through the Affiliate management system
	triage the SMS decision requests incoming requests for approvals to the Head of School and Dean, including liaising with the SMS Executive team, following up issues and completing document management and records.
	support the SMS operations team in the management of casual staff recruitment, onboarding and allocation of workload into the casual management system.
	skillfully manage relationships with stakeholders, addressing any concerns or conflicts that may arise, and work towards mutually beneficial resolutions.
	maintain accurate and organized records, ensuring that important documents and information are properly filed and easily accessible.
	assist in budget management by monitoring expenses, tracking financial transactions, and providing relevant support to the School Manager and Executive team.
	any other duties assigned to this position by the Manager, Operations and Project and the Dean of Sydney Medical School.


About you

Teaching:


	Teach at undergraduate and graduate level in subject areas and on time schedules allocated by the Chair of Department
	Prepare teaching material including course outline, syllabus and lesson plans. Revise the subject matter on a regular basis as appropriate for that subject
	Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high quality curriculum
	Provide students with detailed syllabus, methods of instruction and evaluation in their courses
	Engage in the selection of textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses
	Monitor students’ performance in their subject areas and provides remedial classes when necessary

PhD or equivalent terminal degree, in related discipline from an accredited institution.

Required Experience

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in biological or medical sciences,? with a demonstrated track record in?obesity, metabolism, and related disorders, bridging basic science and clinical applications. They will secure extramural funding, mentor trainees, and drive interdisciplinary collaborations to advance obesity research and its links to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions.??The professor will also facilitate the translation of discoveries into clinical interventions for obesity management and metabolic disease.

The ideal candidate will have a strong research profile, evidenced by publications in high-impact journals, as well as experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within their area of expertise. The dean’s duties?

Description

Many companies, such as Google, Facebook, and Amazon are building new specialized programming frameworks. This is because these companies need to allow their users to write simple, high-level code and run it efficiently on different hardware architectures. For example, Google has built TensorFlow, a framework for deep learning allowing users to run deep learning on multiple hardware architectures without changing the code.

Our research team at NYUAD (New York University Abu Dhabi) in collaboration with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA) is developing a new programming framework called Tiramisu??[1]. Unlike existing frameworks, Tiramisu can perform advanced code optimizations that are hard to apply otherwise. Because of this, Tiramisu can generate fast code that outperforms highly optimized code written by expert programmers and can target different hardware architectures (multicore, GPUs, FPGAs, and??distributed machines).

In order to have the best performance (fastest execution) for a given Tiramisu program, many code optimizations should be applied. Optimizations include vectorization (using hardware vector instructions), parallelization (running loop iterations in parallel), enhancing data locality by fusion, and blocking (i.e. accessing arrays in a way that improves temporal and spatial data locality). A large number of optimizations exist and choosing which optimization should be used and which should not is important for performance.??In some situations, some optimizations are harmful to performance while they are beneficial in other situations. Currently, there is no way to help users choose which optimizations should be used. Expert Google programmers usually spend a lot of time trying different optimizations manually to find the best set of optimizations.

The goal of this project is to add support for automatic code optimization in Tiramisu.??In particular, we want to use machine learning/deep learning to achieve this. Currently, a basic automatic optimization module that relies on machine learning has been developed and we want to take that module to the next level. The final product of this project would be a compiler pass that allows Tiramisu to automatically choose which optimization should be used for a given unoptimized program. We want to produce a high-quality technique that can be used by the users of Tiramisu and especially by our partner companies and research labs.
