Founded in 1871, UW Oshkosh is a public institution and the third largest higher learning institute in Wisconsin, enrolling over 12,000 undergraduate students. The city itself is located on lake Winnebago, and is around a two hour drive to Milwaukee.

Academic study at UW Oshkosh is divided between the four colleges of Business, Education & Human Services, Letters & Science, and Nursing. In the graduate school UW Oshkosh offers more than thirty master*s programmes and a doctoral courses in Nursing Practice and Educational Leadership.

UW Oshkosh has an active study abroad programme, and students can take semesters in locations such as Peru, Spain, and Costa Rica, and an innovative Animal Behaviour Research in Tanzania. The Department of Professional Counselling also offers an annual course in counselling and spirituality abroad, previous expeditions being to India and Malaysia.

For students seeking assistance and support on campus, UW Oshkosh has a Women*s Centre, LGBTQ Resource Centre, and a Student Health Centre.

Athletics teams are known as the Titans, and compete in the NCAA Division III. There are seven men*s sports programmes and ten women*s, including tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Part of the Oshkosh Sports Complex, Titan Stadium hosts football, soccer, and track and field competition, and can seat up to 9,800 spectators.

Notable alumni include sculptor Helen Mears, computer programmer Brian Paul, United States Assistant Secretary of War George de Rue Meiklejohn, and college football Hall of Famer Marty Below.

Three UW Oshkosh campus buildings dating to the late 19th and early 20th century have been placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places; the Oshkosh State Normal School Historic District, Oviatt House, and the Pollock Residence.
