Description

The laboratory of David A. Scicchitano in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Research Assistant to work on the mechanisms underlying genome maintenance, particularly in response to agents that damage DNA.

DNA damage within the transcription unit of a gene has profound effects on the quality and quantity of transcripts when the region is expressed. The location of DNA damage also influences its repair. This position will examine the effect of ablating DNA repair enzymes on other DNA repair pathways that might act to compensate for the loss. Specifically, RNAseq and single-cell RNAseq will be used to address changes to the transcriptome. The current approaches include PCR, RNAseq, western analysis, pretoemics, and metabolomics. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of some of the following: recombinant DNA, molecular biology, SDS-PAGE, cell culture, and laboratory experience using standard scientific equipment. Experience with western blots is ideal.

A master’s degree in biology is preferred, although a bachelor’s degree in biology with completion of a research project as part of the degree course will be considered. Essential skills and experience include a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in physics, chemistry, engineering or materials science. This will be augmented by a strong portfolio of relevant publications and significant experience in advanced materials science and technology. You will also have previously led or supervised other members of a research project.?

We are seeking a Specialist Technician who is passionate to support our work on developing the next generation of advanced materials and be part of an enthusiastic team. The focus will be on the production of chalcogenide precursors and glasses using unique processes developed at the University of Southampton. Problem solving and time management capabilities, able to work with others but also individually, with good communications skills and self-motivated are key aspects for creating a thriving team. Working at the University of Southampton within the Zepler Institute Cleanroom facilities provides access to advanced research and technologies. The post will be for 9 AM to 5 PM work with 35 hours per week.

In the role of Specialist technician, you will be responsible for the operation of the Novel and Compound Glass equipment. This equipment is employed in fabricating materials from as thin as a single molecule to as thick as several millimetres. It includes gloveboxes, tube furnaces, annealing furnaces, Chemical Vapour Deposition, Atomic layer deposition, and a variety of custom and characterisation systems. To operate these effectively you will be given full training and be supported by the rest of the team. You will also have the opportunity to attend Research Technical Professional training events.

Proven experience in a laboratory setting and being able to demonstrate planning and progress of work is essential. A degree in a science related subject or equivalent industry experience is required. Basic knowledge on material synthesis and glass fabrication processes are desirable.

The Education Design Support Officer will partner with the Education Designers and academic and teaching staff in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, to provide learning design solutions and that will bring to life course content and ensure excellent student learning experiences.

	provide strong technical knowledge, learning design and operational support to teaching staff across the faculty

About the Role?

The Field Education Coordinator (Occupational Therapy) will support the National Mental Health Pathways to Practice program. The purpose of this program is to attract and retain allied health professionals to the mental health sector by providing supervised placement opportunities across a range of locations, including non-metropolitan regions.

The program aims to provide placement experience for students in mental health by exposing them to less intensive service settings, with the aim to build capacity and retention in the mental health sector.

The key responsibilities of the Field Education Coordinator (Occupational Therapy) will include (but is not limited to):


	Providing University Field Supervision to students on placement in a range of agencies and services, in line with the University’s Field Education Model.
	Working collaboratively with agencies and services to support placement opportunities on behalf of the University and coordinate placement activities.
	Building capacity in agencies and services to support future workforce needs via agency-based placement supervision, including upskilling of Occupational Therapy staff for student supervision.
	Developing and maintaining strategic relationships and networks with a range of stakeholders including industry and professional associations and organisations.


About You?

The successful candidate will be a passionate professional and a qualified Occupational Therapist. They will hold current AHPRA registration, as well as eligibility for membership with OT Australia.

The successful candidate will also require sufficient relevant post-qualifying practice experience, with a focus on supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Some of the other key position capabilities include:


	High-level interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students and industry.
	Demonstrated experience of contemporary Occupational Therapy supervision and ability to work with stakeholders to shape a future sustainable model of supervision.
	Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
	Demonstrated understanding of the mental health sector and the role of Occupational Therapy within this setting.


This role will require regular travel to client sites across a range of locations, including non-metropolitan regions, and as such, it is expect that the successful candidate will hold and maintain a current driver’s licence.
