Applications are invited for the position of?Senior Lecturer (holding the title of Advanced Professional Trainer) in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration?(Ref: 530816). The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a two-year or three-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.? The appointee will be involved in the professional capacity building team of the Jockey Club End-of-Life Community Care Project for Persons with Disabilities, focusing on professional training and public education in end-of-life care (EoLC). Duties and responsibilities include:


	Adopting innovative pedagogy to design and deliver specific training programs on EoLC issues, targeting stakeholders ranging from healthcare and social care professionals, family caregivers, and volunteers to the general public.
	Generating evidence-based content on end-of-life care, aligned with the professional training and public education activities of the project.
	Supporting and performing other duties as assigned.


Applicants should possess:


	A good Master’s degree or higher qualification in Social Work, Public Health, Mental Health, Psychology, Behavioral Health, Counseling, Nursing, or a related discipline.
	At least 5 years of solid experience in conducting professional training for the medical and/or social work sector on End-of-Life Care (EoLC) and/or public education on EoLC-related topics in Hong Kong.
	Good command of written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese) and English.
	Expert competence in areas including, but not limited to, palliative care, family counseling, the use of art, therapeutic groups, and bereavement care.
	A strong reputation in the psycho-social and communication aspects of EoLC. Knowledge of e-learning design would be an advantage.

Description

The laboratory of David A. Scicchitano in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Research Assistant to work on the mechanisms underlying genome maintenance, particularly in response to agents that damage DNA.

DNA damage within the transcription unit of a gene has profound effects on the quality and quantity of transcripts when the region is expressed. The location of DNA damage also influences its repair. This position will examine the effect of ablating DNA repair enzymes on other DNA repair pathways that might act to compensate for the loss. Specifically, RNAseq and single-cell RNAseq will be used to address changes to the transcriptome. The current approaches include PCR, RNAseq, western analysis, pretoemics, and metabolomics. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of some of the following: recombinant DNA, molecular biology, SDS-PAGE, cell culture, and laboratory experience using standard scientific equipment. Experience with western blots is ideal.

A master’s degree in biology is preferred, although a bachelor’s degree in biology with completion of a research project as part of the degree course will be considered. The Rokers Vision Lab at the Divison of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi?(NYUAD)?seek to?recruit postdoctoral associates for two projects for Rokers Vision Lab reporting to Professor Bas Rokers.

Linking Retinal, Neural, and Perceptual Deficits in Visual Disorder:

Individuals in the UAE are at substantial risk for perceptual deficits due in part to one of the highest diabetes rates in the world. About 10% of diabetic patients suffer severe vision loss and another 2% are completely blind 15 years post-diagnosis. Thus, understanding precisely how diabetes leads to visual deficits is a question with key regional relevance.

Importantly, diabetic?vision?loss is not fully explained by retinal damage alone. Instead it is likely that?microstructural damage in the brain as well as the eye?contribute. Since early risk prediction and timely intervention can mitigate?vision?loss, it is critical that we fully understand the underlying cause(s).?This project aims to?identify biomarkers in the eye and brain that explain?vision?loss, building on our previously-developed method linking clinical, neural and behavioral data (Allen et al., 2018; Miller et al., 2019; Pedersini et al., 2023). We combine ophthalmological,?neuroimaging?and behavioral data, and incorporate deep learning methods to facilitate biomarker discovery and enhance predictive power.?As a postdoctoral associate you will join a multidisciplinary?research team?including?experts?at NYUAD and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi?with a demonstrated track record?in?vision?science, neuro-imaging, neuro-ophthalmology and deep learning.

Using Advanced Imaging-derived Biomarkers to Predict Health Outcomes

Neurological problems, such as stroke, are a likely consequence of obesity, diabetes, MS, and cardiovascular disease. Since these conditions are prevalent in the UAE, identifying the factors that predict and mitigate the risk of stroke early is critical to local health. To this end, NYUAD recently initiated the first large epidemiological study in the UAE – the UAE Healthy Future Study (UAE-HFS), a prospective cohort study of 20,000 UAE nationals aged 18- 40 years which seeks to determine how health is affected by lifestyle, environment, and genes. While these risk factors will be important in understanding long-term health, it is not yet clear how physiological data, such as neuro-imaging can advance our understanding of health outcomes.

This project seeks to address this critical gap in our knowledge. A key limitation of previous work has been a focus on individual imaging modalities (e.g., fMRI, diffusion imaging) at the exclusion of combining information across modalities. Our long-term objective is to develop a “phenotypic fingerprint” from multimodal imaging data in healthy controls to be used as an early predictor of adverse neurologic events. The overarching aim of this project, which represents the first step in this objective, seeks to develop and validate this pipeline.

Our approach is to recruit healthy control subjects and patients through collaborations with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to develop and test the “phenotypic fingerprint” method. This approach is inspired by large ongoing studies including the UK Biobank and the Human Connectome Project, but with a focus on the local population, which present a unique genetic makeup, and regionally-relevant disorders. As a postdoctoral associate you will join a multidisciplinary research team with expertise in neuro-imaging (Rokers, Abdullah) and experience applying multimodal imaging to health-related issues and public health (Ali, Cho).

The positions are funded for two years with the possibility of renewal. Required expertise includes strong knowledge of sensory neuroscience and expertise in at least one of the imaging methodologies involved in the project (OCT-A, structural MRI, fMRI, dMRI, ASL). For a competitive application at the postdoctoral level, candidates should demonstrate experience in leading imaging studies, as shown by publications in international scientific journals. The successful candidates will work in a multidisciplinary Center environment with world-class research infrastructure, consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic, proactive Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise Fellow to work with our small, friendly team in the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Facility (Chromatography and mass spectrometry facility | University of Southampton) in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, at the University of Southampton. The facility is led by Prof. Geraint Morgan and Dr Julie Herniman, and specialises in the development and application of novel analytical assays to solve complex analytical challenges for both commercial and academic collaborators.

This is a fixed term (24 months), full-time appointment (1.0 FTE/35 hours per week), with an indicative start date of 1st July 2025. The post is in the Education, Research and Enterprise (ERE) job family at Level 4 and will be based on the Highfield Campus.

Ideally candidates should have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline, and a track record of academic research outputs. The ideal candidate should have prior experience and expertise in working with and maintaining gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and associated sample collection techniques for collection and analysis of volatile organic compounds (such as thermal desorption).

This role involves running the day-to-day activities of the Chromatography and Mass spectrometry facility, with a specific emphasis on the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry instrumentation, as well handling Health and Safety tasks and customer engagement. We are seeking a Specialist Technician who is passionate to support our work on developing the next generation of advanced materials and be part of an enthusiastic team. The focus will be on the production of chalcogenide precursors and glasses using unique processes developed at the University of Southampton. In the role of Specialist technician, you will be responsible for the operation of the Novel and Compound Glass equipment. This equipment is employed in fabricating materials from as thin as a single molecule to as thick as several millimetres. It includes gloveboxes, tube furnaces, annealing furnaces, Chemical Vapour Deposition, Atomic layer deposition, and a variety of custom and characterisation systems. To operate these effectively you will be given full training and be supported by the rest of the team. You will also have the opportunity to attend Research Technical Professional training events.

Proven experience in a laboratory setting and being able to demonstrate planning and progress of work is essential. A degree in a science related subject or equivalent industry experience is required. Basic knowledge on material synthesis and glass fabrication processes are desirable.
