The University of the Arts was set up in 1876 as an institution solely focused on visual and performing arts and design based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Its College of Art, Media and Design, College of Performing Arts and the Division of Liberal Arts offer 41 undergraduate and graduate programmes. Its bachelor*s degrees include animation, ceramics, crafts, film and video, film design and production, fine arts, game art, glass, graphic design, illustration, jewelry/metals, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking and book arts, sculpture, creative writing, writing for film and television, acting, composition, dance, directing, playwriting and production, music business, entrepreneurship and technology, musical theatre, theatre design and technology and vocal performance. The student to faculty ratio is eight to one, and the average undergraduate class size is 15, which will allow you to both know your professors and fellow students well, and to be exposed to a range of different artistic preferences and styles.

The campus is based in Philadelphia*s Avenue of the Arts, so you will have access to an array of cultural events, and is only two hours away from New York and Washington.

The university has over 20 student clubs and organisations, ranging from cultural groups such as UArts Korean Association and recreational groups such as UArts Circus Club to arts activities such as UArts Private Cinema, Improv Entourage and Gallery One - the only student-run gallery in Philadelphia.

Some notable alumni include actress Irene Bedard - the voice of Pocahontas, Grammy Award winning musicians Adam Blackstone, Robin Eubanks and Stanley Clarke, professor, pianist and composer Natalie Hinderas, dancer and choreographer Judith Jamison of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and American Ballet Theatre, cartoonist and illustrator Harold Knerr, furniture designer Richard Schultz, painter Rachel Constantine and many others.
