State Islamic University of Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, also known as UIN Bandung or UIN SGD, is a public Islamic university in Bandung, West Java. Founded in 1968, it was named after Sunan Gunungjati, one of the Sufi figures who helped to spread Islam in Indonesia.
Its focus is on religious education and theology, and it is noted for its intellectual contributions to a number of Islamic movements and organisations. But its curriculum has expanded beyond religion to include numerous faculties and institutes in various fields. The university offers 48 undergraduate programmes, 15 master¡¯s and three PhDs in disciplines ranging from religion, business and law to social studies, politics, economics, engineering and more. A number of scholarships are available.
Especially popular is UIN Bandung¡¯s Inter-Religious Study undergraduate programme. In the course, designed for conflict resolution and harmonious inter-religious relationship, students explore Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Confucianism.
UIN SGD Bandung has a large alumni network, with graduates finding success in various fields, including government and education.
