About You

The Associate Professor will provide leadership and foster excellence in teaching and research efforts of the School and within the University. More specifically, the Associate Professor is expected to make innovative and distinguished contributions to the School's profile at a national and international level in areas relevant to their discipline (Management/Leadership/Organisational Behaviour).

The Associate Professor will make a significant contribution to the planning and strategic direction of the School, taking on strategic academic leadership roles for learning and teaching or research and scholarship. Their leadership may involve participation in various committees within the School, College and University and external to the University, as appropriate.

To be successful in this position, you will have as a minimum:


	Demonstrated superior ability to direct an award program/s and implement program improvements and innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement programs.
	Nationally recognised research track record including substantial record of research outputs in high quality outlets and emerging international recognition.
	Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort and manage funded research projects including complex budgets and reporting requirements.
	Extensive experience in building and developing collaborative research teams, and mentoring academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes.
	Extensive experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research
	Demonstrated ability to lead scholarly development and manage and supervise academic teams and members.
	Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a University.
	Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, produce executive reports, negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment.

Our work also addresses issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, individuals from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, and other structurally marginalised or underrepresented communities.
	Social Impact - We generate positive social impacts through research that informs responsible policy and practice in areas related to work, employment, and societal wellbeing. Our research addresses issues such as workplace health and safety, sustainable business practices, corporate social responsibility (CSR), public health and care management, labour markets, and trade unions. We also explore emerging themes such as regenerative futures and just transitions in the context of energy and environmental change, with a focus on enhancing social equity and long-term sustainability.
	Technology for Humanity - Focusing on the human side of technology, we explore how tech-enabled innovations can be effectively managed to improve work, learning, wellbeing at the individual, team, and organisational levels. Our research spans areas such as the human-AI interface, gamification in organisational settings, digital transformation in higher education, and technology adoption in organisations.

This is an exceptional time to be joining the University of Southampton Information and Cyber Security team within the University’s IT department, iSolutions. The Security team is uniquely placed to advise, support, and defend the University against security threats.

About the Role

You will take a leading role in securing the Secure Data Research Environment, providing specialist expertise in information and cyber security to protect sensitive research data and ensure compliance with security standards. You will work closely with colleagues across the University to monitor and analyse security systems, respond to incidents, address vulnerabilities, and implement security measures.

You will also be responsible for supporting the University’s preparation for and maintenance of cyber security accreditations, including Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO/IEC 27001.

The role is currently remote with future flexible options.

The interviews are expected to be held in the week commencing the 14th?July.?

What you’ll do

· Work with colleagues from the University to Lead efforts for the Secure Data Research Environments Cyber Security accreditations (e.g., Cyber Essentials/Plus, ISO/IEC 27001), coordinating audits, managing documentation, and implementing remedial actions.

· Provide support in maintaining security operations by managing and updating security policies and procedures, conducting vulnerability assessments, and implementing security patches and updates.

· Oversee remediation of risks from security scans and tests, ensuring alignment with risk appetite before production. Conduct risk assessments for on-premise and cloud-hosted solutions, identifying control gaps and residual risks using frameworks (e.g., CIS Top 18, NIST Cyber Security Framework, ISO 27001).

· Lead on efforts relating to the Secure Data Research Environments Cyber Security accreditations, including Cyber Essentials/Plus and ISO/IEC 27001.

· Provide expert guidance on policies, standards, industry regulations, and best practices. Offer consultation on Secure by Design principles and information assurance. Develop IA strategies, policies, and awareness programs.

· Identify, analyse, and evaluate information risks across various projects and systems. Communicate the causes, likelihood, and impacts of information risks to stakeholders.

· Maintain awareness of evolving cyber security and regulatory landscapes to inform risk management and governance.

What you’ll bring:

· Experience of information and cyber security within a large organisation.

· Knowledge of current information and cyber security issues and opportunities, including knowledge of security frameworks.

· Experience of with security tooling, particularly within a mixed Windows, Linux, Mac and Cloud environment.

· The ability to present your ideas and your specialist area, to a wide and potentially non-technical audience.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our 23-month project evaluating the 'Making Every Contact Count' (MECC) programme in Bolton. This programme aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes through brief, opportunistic conversations on healthy lifestyle choices, delivered by Local Authority, health, and social care staff. The project is guided by the RE-AIM framework to assess the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance of MECC across diverse community settings. This project is funded by the School for Public Health Research through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

The Research Fellow will play a crucial role in the evaluation of the MECC programme, focusing on its implementation, reach, effectiveness, and fidelity. This role will involve a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative and qualitative data collection, fidelity assessment, and economic modelling.

The Research Fellow will work closely with project partners (i.e. Bolton City Council Public Health Team and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust), health and social care professionals, and community stakeholders to generate actionable insights that inform future practice.

This role is fixed-term, full time, for 23 months and will start in June 2025.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 therefore the successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The applicant will be guided and supported by Dr Angela Rodrigues (Associate Professor, Northumbria University) in a team consisting of?Bolton City Council Public Health Team and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust partners, academic colleagues from Sheffield University, University of Oxford, University of Greater Manchester and?Lancaster University. This also includes patient and public involvement.

You will be embedded in the?MECC research group?at Northumbria University. The group brings together interdisciplinary experts from both academia and practice in the fields of Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Business, and Health and Social Care across Northern England with the shared aim of advancing the evidence base for MECC. The group, led by Dr Angela Rodrigues, has strong links with?Fuse?and the?ARC NENC?and works with fellow academics at the other North East Universities along with relevant stakeholders from the NHS and Local Authorities including the regional MECC strategy group.

You will be formally based in the Department of Psychology, within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Northumbria University, City Campus.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in the role you will have:


	Excellent qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, and experience in mixed-methods research, including survey design, qualitative interviewing, and data triangulation.
	Strong understanding of intervention development and evaluation frameworks, particularly RE-AIM, and behavioural science tools (e.g. Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTs); Theoretical Domains Framework), and knowledge of the Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach, including its principles, implementation strategies, and evaluation within health and social care settings is desirable.


Ability to?travel for purpose of data collection to various locations in the UK is essential.

You will hold a PhD, have submitted your PhD or be about to submit your PhD in the next two months, or have equivalent experience, in in Public Health, Behavioural Science, Health Psychology, or a related field.

We are looking to strengthen our team at the newly established?Cluster of Excellence EurAsian Transformations. The Cluster involves more than 30 researchers from four academic institutions (Austrian Academy of Sciences,?University of Vienna,?Central European University,?University of Innsbruck). The Cluster explores original-language sources in dozens of languages with a view towards addressing issues of contemporary relevance - diversity, mobility, identity - in historical perspective, pursuing comparative questions and stressing forms of connectivity in the realms of culture and religion, economy and politics, across Eurasia. We strive for a fruitful interdisciplinary dialogue and seek cooperation with the regions involved in order to create new academic infrastructures in Austria and internationally and to promote plurilateral research perspectives.
