Faculty in the ICT Cluster undertake funded industry-relevant research, teach courses in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security and Software Engineering, as well as supervise graduate industry masters and doctorate students in relevant topics. Description

The newly established NYUAD Wireless Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a?Post-Doctoral Associate (PDA)?who will conduct research on the physical layer design of optical wireless communication systems as enablers of wireless access/backhaul of 6G and beyond networks. The PDA will be jointly supervised by Murat Uysal and Qurrat-Ul-Ain Nadeem.

Principal Responsibilities


	The PDA will conduct research to design and develop optical wireless communication systems. This involves the development of mathematical models for signal transmission/reception, derivation of performance limits, algorithmic-level system design and performance evaluation via computer simulations and/or experimental means.
	The PDA is expected to actively disseminate results through publications in high-impact journals and presentations at leading international conferences.
	The PDA is expected to contribute to intellectual property development through patent filings and participate in international standardization efforts relevant to optical wireless technologies in coordination with academic and industrial collaborators.


Qualifications


	Applicants must hold a PhD degree in electrical/electronics engineering, telecommunications or related field. Other requirements include:
	Strong background in communication theory, signal processing, wireless/optical communications, and communication system engineering
	Extensive experience in physical layer algorithm design and performance analysis
	?Proven track record of publications in relevant IEEE journals and conferences


In addition to the above qualifications, it is highly desirable that the candidate has prior research experience in one or more of the following research topics:


	Free space optical communication
	Visible light communication
	DSP for coherent optical communication
	Machine learning and AI-native physical layer design
	Optical reconfigurable intelligent surfaces
	?Spatial mode multiplexing and orbital angular momentum

Position Summary

The University of Central Asia (UCA) invites applications for the position of Director, Afghanistan Research Initiative (ARI). This is a part-time appointment that may be held remotely. Now in its second phase, ARI is a three-year programme aimed at strengthening research and enhancing intellectual capacity by assisting doctoral students to complete their studies, supporting innovative research, and fostering research networks to address critical issues affecting the country's present and future. ARI’s focus spans the social sciences, humanities, gender studies, and earth and environmental sciences, with a particular emphasis on sustainable development. Southeast Asia is a geography of particular interest. ARI is supported by a grant from Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

Main Duties and Responsibilities


	Implement and manage ARI activities and programmes.
	Supervise research project outputs and their publication in reputable outlets.
	Management grants, including reporting and compliance.
	Maintain relationships with donors and stakeholders
	Develop partnerships with universities, research institutions and other organizations aligned with ARI’s goals
	Oversee ARI’s public communications, including podcasts, public lectures, and social media.
	Track developments on Afghan research internationally and in Afghanistan.
	Seek synergies with other units of UCA’s Graduate School of Development.


Required Qualifications and Experience


	PhD in one of ARI's fields of focus, preferably with a dissertation on an Afghan topic.
	Proven record of research.
	Demonstrated administrative and grant writing/management experience.
	Strong interest in building knowledge networks.
	Excellent written and spoken English written and verbal skills. Knowledge of Dari and/or Pashtu is essential.
