ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutions and gives students the skills and knowledge they need to secure careers in a global marketplace. The School of Advanced Technology has five departments (intelligent Science, Computing, Mechatronics and Robotics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Communications and networking). About the Roles

The Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Genomics and Genetics) will contribute to and lead teaching and research in population genomics, ecogenomics, genetics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, and related areas. The appointment will strengthen the Department of Biology's research in evolutionary biology, environmental adaptation, conservation genomics, ecological genomics, and computational biology.

At Senior Lecturer level (C), you will:


	Deliver high-quality teaching and course coordination in genomics and genetics.
	Lead and collaborate on research projects aligned with the School's priorities.
	Publish in high-quality outlets and attract competitive research funding.
	Supervise higher degree by research (HDR) students.
	Build productive networks across RMIT and with national and international partners.

At Associate Professor level (D), you will:


	Provide academic leadership in teaching, research, and program development.

	Demonstrated ability to manage academic program team, supporting scholarly development of less experienced academic staff.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will support the Principal Investigator in delivery of research activity on the ‘Consequences of Impaired Mitochondrial Division on Human Neural Integrity’?project.

The role is part time (18.75 hours per week) and fixed term for 14 months (01/11/2025 – 31/12/2026).

ABOUT THE TEAM

This Research Project is being delivered within the School of Geography and Natural Science and focuses on studying fundamental mitochondrial disease mechanisms. Our work is supported by the Academy of Medical Sciences and centres on an exciting project exploring the consequences of impaired mitochondrial division on human neural integrity.

As part of this team, you will collaborate with experienced researchers and actively support PhD students, contributing to a culture of shared learning and mentoring. We place strong emphasis on teamwork, training, and professional development to support research that advances our understanding of mitochondrial function and health.

ABOUT YOU

Applicants should hold a BTEC HNC/HND (or equivalent) qualification in Biosciences or relevant area and must have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge and practical experience in human cell culture techniques and ability to perform basic molecular biology and related genome editing techniques.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following:

Key accountabilities


	Establish, culture and cryopreserve human cells lines (e.g. primary fibroblasts, iPSCs)
	Prepare iPSC-derived cells and samples for DNA/RNA and protein analyses?
	Follow and perform standard laboratory SOPs to ensure consistency and compliance with best practice
	Ensure timely completion of studies and maintain up-to date records
	Maintain knowledge of health and safety regulations and assist with the completion and updating of safety documentation
	Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to source reagents, specialist parts and equipment
	Manage laboratory orders and budget monitoring
	Deliver inductions, demonstrations and training covering laboratory techniques and specialist equipment

The School of Health Sciences is seeking a Research Fellow to work on an NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research funded project to undertake a realist review of evidence into what works to support oncology staff to engage with, communicate and act on mainstreaming genomic testing information. This review will lead to evidence based recommendations and targeted outputs which may generate impact over the long term by helping to lead to an increase in genomic referral rates, and by enhancing preventative care and thereby reducing late cancer diagnosis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a post-doctoral health services researcher or social scientist with realist review experience, and preferably with a knowledge of genomics, cancer and/or NHS workforce. The researcher will be supported by co-PIs Dr Ruth Abrams (University of Surrey) and Dr Chris Jacobs (University of Surrey) and the wider research team.

Sitting within the University’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, the School of Health Sciences has achieved substantial success and is currently ranked 4th by the Complete University Guide 2020 and 4th by the Times and Sunday Time Good University Guide 2020. The School is a leading provider of undergraduate and postgraduate education and is in the top 10 in the UK for research following the recent Research Excellence Framework assessment. In addition to this, we have been awarded Gold for our Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).?

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with skills in realist methodology and excellent project management to lead this review. They will also need to be able to engage in deep critical thinking to develop theoretical insights, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and contribute positively to a remote team culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking the data collection, data extraction and synthesis as well as support the write up of the final report and the production of various dissemination materials with support from other members of the team.?
