Based in rural eastern Pennsylvania near the town of the same name, Kutztown is a collegiate university dating back to 1866.
As well as a Graduate institution, there are four Colleges at KU; Business, Education, Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Visual & Performing Arts. The College of Performing Arts in particular benefits from Kutztown＊s proximity to the cities of Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore and Washington, and regular excursions to these cultural centres are regularly made on the so-called ＆Art Bus＊. The modern design of Sharadin Arts building hosts a variety of classrooms as well as a dedicated Gallery to showcase students work.
As well as 23 graduate degree programmes in courses ranging from a Computer Science Master＊s to a Public Administration MPA, there are now two doctoral programmes at KU. The PhD course in Education is designed for those who wish to dedicate a career to the teaching profession, fostering a strong interaction with students and fostering social change in the process. The Doctor of Social Work is a hybrid programme taught in conjunction with affiliate campuses in Pennsylvania and constructed on a part time basis to accommodate adults with full time jobs.
Offering study abroad options in over thirty countries, KU is a member of the College Consortium for International Studies. Past students have earned course credits in locations ranging from Ecuador to Germany, and KU offers an International Studies minor which can allow a student to become oriented with a country before travelling.
The official colours of KU are maroon and gold, which are also the kit colours of the varsity teams known as the Golden Bears. A motto of KU is ＆learn＃ to make a difference＊.
