The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) is a vibrant faculty based in the heart of London with a long tradition of world-leading research and teaching in physics, mathematics, chemistry, informatics, engineering and natural sciences.

?This role presents an exciting opportunity to be part of the research operations team that manages a wide-ranging research funding portfolio across our five departments.

Reporting to the Senior Research Operations Manager in the NMES Faculty Office at the Strand Campus, this is an integral role focused on developing and widening the post-award support that we offer within our research operations function.

About the role

The Research Operations Manager is a key position in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) Faculty Office that plays an important role in the development and implementation of post-award processes across the five departments of the Faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight of post-award support across NMES and provide guidance and support to both our academics and the department-based Senior Research Operations Officers and Research Operations Managers.

The post will report to the Faculty’s Senior Research Operations Manager.

The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) comprises Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics – all departments highly rated in research activities and a wide-ranging portfolio of education programmes.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with staff at all levels, within and outside the organisation.
	Experience of supporting research activity within the Higher Education sector and a strong understanding of the research funding landscape.
	Highly numerate and analytical with proven experience of dealing with budgetary and financial processes, ideally relating to research funding.
	Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and delegate tasks appropriately and work to tight deadlines.
	Experience of producing detailed reports using complex data from a wide range of sources.
	Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
	Excellent IT skills, including experience of using and manipulating databases and other electronic resources.
	Ability to provide management information to a high level of detail and accuracy

Reporting to the CIO & University Librarian, the Associate Director (Application Development) for the Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) will lead the strategic development, design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-level applications and software solutions critical to the university’s academic, administrative, and research operations. This role demands a visionary leader with robust technical expertise, exceptional management skills, strong leadership skills and a passion for leveraging technology to address institutional challenges. The successful candidate will oversee a team of developers, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and user-centric applications aligned with Lingnan’s institutional goals. The appointee is required to deliver the following key responsibilities:


	Application Development Leadership:
	
		Lead and manage the ITSC’s application development team of over 16 developers, ensuring delivery of secure, scalable, and user-centric software solutions
		Oversee the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and post-launch support
		Steer the migration to a new Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system including planning for data migration, system integration with existing ERP and other internal systems, stakeholder engagement, vendor management, testing, and implementation while ensuring smooth operation of the university during migration
		Lead initiatives related to digital transformation, process automation, and integration with existing systems, fostering innovation across the University

	Strategic Planning:
	
		Support the CIO & University Librarian to develop and execute a technology roadmap that aligns with Lingnan’s strategic goals

Requirements


	A recognized degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
	At least 15 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing application development or similar functions
	Proven track record in successfully leading large-scale IT projects from conception to implementation, preferably in an academic or research environment
	Experience in ERP migration is highly desirable
	Expertise in enterprise systems (e.g. ERP, LMS and CRM), Agile/Scrum methodologies, DevOps practices, and modern programming languages (e.g. Java, Python and .NET)
	Proficiency in database systems (SQL and Oracle), web technologies (HTML5 and JavaScript frameworks), cloud platforms (AWS and Azure) and API development
	Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with strong ability to engage diverse stakeholders
	Outstanding project management skills, with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget
	Certifications such as PMP, Scrum Master, or ITIL, and knowledge of AI, machine learning, or data analytics tools is preferred

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Building Construction. Candidates must hold a Master’s or PhD degree in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is of advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes.

Teaching Responsibilities

In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Architecture Program (ARC). The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduction is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes).

Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures mainly on the following modules:


	Building Construction I ?
	Building Construction II ?
	Building Construction III?
	Building Construction IV


The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and the Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may require conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects.

The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor’s theses.

Research Responsibilities

As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of Building Construction. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable.

Administrative responsibilities 

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Architecture Program by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies.

Qualification

Candidates must at least hold a Master’s degree (having a PhD is a significant advantage) with major in Building Construction, or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor will be a plus, as experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology. Other requirements include:


	An outstanding academic record with a focus on Building Construction and?
	Architectural Design, or other areas closely related to these.?
	Proven expertise in Building Construction and Architectural Design?
	Strong track record of successful research activities and publications in?international and peer-reviewed journals in the related area?

Setting:

The University of Vienna seeks to fill a position of University Assistant (prae doc), for a period of 4 years, focusing on process mining. The selected prae doc will become part of the Research Group Workflow Systems and Technology (WST) at the Faculty of Computer Science and will work towards obtaining a doctorate degree (PhD) under the supervision of Prof. Han van der Aa. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

The WST research group focuses on research in process mining, which revolves around the data-driven analysis of organizational processes.
