Description

The Mathematics Program in the Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on one or more of the following topics: Mathematical Physics, Spectral Theory, Quantum Chaos, Large Graphs and Quantum Walks. Related areas such as Quantum Information can also be considered. This position is offered through the research funds of Mostafa Sabri.

The Mathematics Program at NYUAD is quickly expanding, the candidate will find many international experts and postdocs with whom to interact. Weekly seminars are in place across the various research areas represented at NYUAD. The successful applicant will also receive a mobility credit to participate in conferences.

Applicants must have a PhD in Mathematics, with a strong background in one of the advertised topics, as well as an excellent academic record. Candidates with PhDs in Physics or Computer Science may also be considered if they willing to collaborate with mathematicians on these topics.

For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with a full publication list, a research statement, a transcript, and at least two letters of reference, all in PDF format. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed twice. In the first interview, the candidate will give a talk summarizing earlier research. The second interview will be to discuss a research project in collaboration with Mostafa Sabri around the aforementioned topics. Candidates are advised to reflect upon such collaborations and include them in the research statement before applying.

About us

The Department of Informatics is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral research fellow with an excellent track record in knowledge graphs, semantic technologies, and machine learning. Topics of interest in this area include, but are not limited to: natural language processing, large language models,? graph learning, general pre-trained transformers, prompt engineering, knowledge graphs, knowledge representation, knowledge engineering, linked data.

About the role

The successful candidate will join the Distributed AI (DAI) group in the Department of Informatics, King’s College London. They will carry out research in neuro-symbolic AI, with a focus on using generative AI and prompt engineering as a method to engineer knowledge graphs one can trust. This includes the design of algorithms and architectures, but also process blueprints and guidance for knowledge engineers to use generative AI tools productively.?

The post holder will work closely with Prof Elena Simperl and Dr Albert Mero?o Pe?uela and a team of 15+ researchers and PhD students in the area of knowledge graphs. The role covers research in the areas mentioned above, as well as the production of scientific publications and application showcases to drive research impact. The researcher will also be expected to support the organisation of impact creation activities, including hackathons, workshops, tutorials, and community meetups. The research outputs will inform work undertaken in the group in several large collaborative grants and application areas, including cultural heritage, enterprise data management, and legal compliance.

The ideal candidate will have solid expertise in the technical areas mentioned earlier, as well as a proven track record of scientific excellence (through publications in A and A* conferences and journals) and of open science and FAIR practices (through software, datasets and other research outputs, participation in challenges etc). Familiarity with knowledge engineering methodologies and with semantic technologies, in theory and practice, is a firm requirement.?

The post is full-time (35 hours per week), offered on a fixed term contract for 18 months. We can discuss part-time options in exceptional circumstances. There is also the option to extend the contract beyond the 18 months provided funding is available.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	PhD in computer science, AI or related area
	Proven experience of knowledge engineering and semantic technologies such as knowledge graphs, ontologies, data modelling, RDF, RDFS, OWL
	Proven experience with predictive and generative AI
	Practical experience in using large language models, generative AI techniques, prompt engineering
	Proven record of A/A* scientific publications and open science/FAIR practices
	Teamwork skills demonstrated e.g. through project work, organization of joint events, co-authored papers etc.
	Time management and organisational skills, including experience in organizing small scientific workshops and similar


Desirable criteria


	Familiarity with the design of AI enabled tools, AI assistants, and agentic AI
	Familiarity and contributions to Wikipedia and/or Wikidata
	Familiarity with one or more of these application domains for neuro-symbolic AI: law, cultural heritage, enterprise data management
	Track record of organising dissemination and community building events e.g. workshops or tutorials co-located with academic conferences

We are seeking an expert to play a pivotal role in our medical engineering efforts. You will drive and shape all aspects of the medical device product development lifecycle, from conceptual design to product registration and commercialization.

What You'll Do


	Develop and execute comprehensive product development plans that align with our Centre’s strategic objectives
	Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, contractors, and resource allocation Manage the design and manufacturing control process, including user assessment, design conception, verification, validation, design transfer, and quality assurance
	Oversee the whole manufacturing process from start to finish, and in charge of organizing and coordinating all departments involved, from design and engineering to production and quality control
	Work with scientific innovators and invention developers to engineer novel technological solutions for product breakthroughs
	Identify and manage relationships with clinical research organizations (CROs) and clinical investigators.
	Liaise with project teams, suppliers and clients
	Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., FDA, IVD-R, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, IEC 62304, EU MDR, etc.).
	Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory filings (e.g., 510(k), PMA, CE marking, etc.) to obtain marketing authorization.
	Interact with regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA, notified bodies) to resolve issues.
	Ensure that all product development activities are conducted in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS).
	Analyze manufacturing process to identify any opportunities for improvement or cost savings


What is Required


	8+ years of experience in medical device product development, with a proven track record of successfully bringing products from concept to commercialization
	4+ years of experience in a senior role in project management, managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects
	Experience with deep tech and healthcare products (e.g., those involving AI/ML, biomedical software, medical big-data, novel materials, advanced sensors, medical implants, diagnostic devices, etc.) is highly desirable.
	Strong knowledge of QMS and medical device regulations (e.g., FDA QSR, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, IEC 62304, EU MDR, etc.).
	Familiar with clinical trial designs and clinical development management
	Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
	
		Brain-Computer Interface (BCI)?
		Biomaterials or Bioelectronics for Electronic Skin
