Upon successful completion of the PhD programme, the scholar will be considered to join SIT’s faculty as an Assistant Professor.

About The Role

We are seeking to recruit research software engineers to help translate the next generation of AI-assisted imaging systems for surgical guidance. The postholder, based within the Department of Surgical & Interventional Engineering at King’s College London, will play a key role in collaborative projects with King’s College Hospital. The role will involve supporting two ongoing clinical neurosurgery study. The successful candidates will join the clinical study team to help curate high-quality data.?

The postholders will help support data analysis tasks and work on computational algorithms to help streamline data annotation. Image computing activities involve expanding on interactive segmentation algorithms to accelerate data annotation. The recruited individuals will complement our multidisciplinary team, undertake research in computer-assisted intervention, and consolidate our existing software infrastructure.?

The post involves close and active collaboration with the surgical team, researchers, and engineers. The candidate will work closely with the rest of the team to correlate surgical data with other rich clinical data sources (e.g. surgical microscopy, histopathology).

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 Sep 2025.

From its earliest years, the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) has been fundamentally changing and shaping how we understand, prevent and treat mental illness and other conditions that affect the brain.? The IoPPN is divided into 14 academic departments across three major academic Schools: Academic Psychiatry, Mental Health & Psychological Sciences, and Neuroscience.

The Department of Psychosis Studies, part of the School of Academic Psychiatry, is one of the world’s leading centres for research into psychotic disorders. Our research includes the following major themes: Comorbidities & transdiagnostic approaches; Interventions; Neuroscience & biological mechanisms; Prediction and analytics; Risk factors and population health; and Treatment resistance. Our work involves a wide range of methodologies, including artificial intelligence/ digital technologies and interventions, cognitive neuroscience approaches, epidemiology, experimental medicine and clinical trials, ex vivo analyses, genomics, health service and applied research, meta-analysis and evidence synthesis, prevention and early intervention, psychological approaches, psychopathology/ phenomenology, neuroimaging, real world data analyses and natural language processing, and stem cell techniques.

About the role

This is an exciting position where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of an internationally leading team of researchers investigating biological bases of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders and the mechanism of action of treatments. The team has a particular interest in investigating the mechanism of action of cannabinoids and a key component of this program of work will involve the application of cutting edge neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI to investigate the neural substrates underpinning the harmful effects of recreational cannabis use as well as potential therapeutic effects of cannabinoids.

They will be expected to support ongoing studies. For example, mechanistic sub studies linked to clinical trials as well as observational studies and contribute to grant applications or protocols. This often involves neuroimaging or cognitive paradigms.

The Role

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Department of Engineering with a particular emphasis on hydrogen technologies. The EPSRC project, UNISON, seeks to improve the combustion of neat ammonia by exploring fuel additive-enhanced combustion or a catalytic burner that enable ammonia-hydrogen co-combustion. Key goals include optimising combustion efficiency, minimising emissions, and providing industry-ready solutions for ammonia combustion. Working within the EPSRC project, they will focus on clean combustion challenges, analysing and interpreting research findings, supporting the development of innovative combustors, and driving innovative technology solutions. The role also involves contributing to research funding bids, supporting licensing or spin-out activities, and enhancing the broader public understanding and commercial impact of the research.

The post-holder is employed to work on the UNISON project which will be led by Prof Dawei Wu. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.
