The?Faculty of Educational Sciences?at the University of Helsinki is a leading, internationally renowned, and highly successful research and training unit in the field of educational sciences and teacher education. The faculty studies human growth, development, teaching and learning in a variety of contexts. Our research aims to realise cultural and social potential for the benefit of the individual and humanity in a changing world. The faculty has two departments: Department of Education and the Teacher Training schools.

The dean’s duties?

As the dean, you will lead the operations of your Faculty and support the rector in the University’s leadership. Your work is a central part of the Faculty’s success and its role at the University. Your duties include the following:?


	Managing the Faculty’s operations in accordance with the University’s strategic plan and values?
	Ensuring the success of your Faculty while taking into account the indicators of the University’s funding model?
	Bearing responsibility for the efficient, economic and effective completion of the Faculty’s duties, operations and degree programmes as well as for the Faculty’s assets?
	Preparing and implementing the decisions of the Faculty Council and deciding on the Faculty’s human resources and financial matters ?
	Contributing to the management of University-level duties in support of the rector?
	Collaborating with the Faculty’s key stakeholders?


Through your actions, you will always further the interests of the Faculty and the University. You will work directly under the direction of the rector of the University, receiving support from vice-deans.?

What we are looking for?

The position requires a strategic and forward-looking vision for the development of the Faculty and the University. Successful cooperation with the Faculty, the University community, the University’s senior leadership and stakeholders is based on interaction, openness, collegiality and objective-setting. In addition, the position requires the following:?


	A doctoral degree ?
	Competence and professional skills required by the duties of the position?
	Good leadership skills as demonstrated in practice, for example, in an academic leadership position with operational responsibility?
	Financial and HR management skills as well as?leadership and supervisory skills, and willingness to develop in your role?
	An understanding of the academic world and experience in the academic management and leadership of a Faculty discipline?


The position requires proficiency in Finnish and English. Proficiency in Swedish will be considered an asset.?

When making the appointment, merit will be accorded for insight into research and educational policy, experience in teaching, and engaging in active national and international cooperation in the field of the Faculty. The University is looking to appoint a Conference Host to join the team which supports commercial and corporate event activity within our award-winning Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC), across the campus, and supporting our Conference Management Service (CMS).

The Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) is the University’s flagship research facility, opened by HM The Queen in July 2015. TIC is home to ?11m of dedicated, flexible conferencing facilities, and has quickly established itself as one the country’s most popular venues for business events and academic meetings, hosting more than 600 events and 46,000 delegates in academic year 2023/24 alone. The venue won the Bronze award for UK Best Academic Venue at the Meetings & Incentive Travel awards magazine in March 2019; was named Best Academic Venue at the CHS Awards in June 2019; Best Scottish Venue & Events Team at the E Awards in 2023 and is a proud holder of Green Tourism Gold accreditation.

Our Conference Hosts provide a range of practical support services to conference organisers, to ensure that all attendees have a first-class customer experience, whether their event takes place on campus or online. The post-holder plays a key role in supporting day-to-day operations, both on campus and online. Duties include (but are not limited to):


	First point of contact for building visitors, assistance with wayfinding in the building and general use of the facilities
	Providing front line support to all event organisers including troubleshooting, adjusting programs and requirements and relaying updated information to other operational departments
	Assisting with guest service, room set-ups, portering, and basic audio-visual support as operations require
	Management of event details for Occupant Room Use bookings, liaising with the Business Development Co-ordinator and with room bookers, to ensure that such meetings are delivered effectively, professionally and in a manner complementary to commercial conferencing activity.
	Supporting date entry, configuration of specific elements of functionality within the CMS platform; supporting attendee registration.


The Hosts work closely with the Conference Porter, Conference Operations Co-ordinators, Conference & Events Officers and the Conference Operations Manager, and with other operational support staff based in the venue.

The post-holder will be required to work 35 hours per week, 5 days over 7. Shift patterns will depend on the needs of the business, but will regularly include hours outside the normal working week, i.e. early mornings, evenings and weekends, throughout the year. A 5% premium will be added to the salary of the successful candidate to reflect this non-standard working pattern.

The Conference Host is essential to the effective operation of a first-class event experience at the University. The role requires a motivated, enthusiastic individual with an eye for detail, a calm and professional demeanor, experience within a conferencing or events environment and a flexible approach to their work.

About the Position

The Associate Director, 51吃瓜 Partnerships is responsible for leading and managing 51吃瓜 Partnerships for UOW Australia. The post holder is the subject matter expert for 51吃瓜 Partnerships, with functional responsibility for transnational education, global student mobility and international engagement and will drive a range of global initiatives for the University.? The position has responsibility for developing and nurturing institutional partnerships to support the University’s internationalisation goals including supporting onshore international student attraction through partner relationships.?
