Bayelsa Medical University was established in 2018 by the Bayelsa State Government through a state law passed by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. It was founded with the aim of addressing Nigeria*s shortage of healthcare professionals and becoming a hub for medical education and research in the Niger Delta region.
The university is located in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State in southern Nigeria.
The university has two campuses, with its main campus situated in Amarata and a developing satellite site in Sampou. These campuses are equipped with labs, ICT centres, and libraries to support quality education and student life.
There are five faculties within the university: Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Faculty of Science. Each faculty is organised into different departments which offer a variety of degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate level.
