The Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering at Aalto University School of Science invites applications for:

Assistant Professor Position (Tenure Track) in Living State Physics

We are looking for Assistant professor in the emerging field of Living State Physics, which integrates concepts, methodologies, tools, and techniques from the physical sciences and engineering to advance our understanding of processes and properties distinctive to living organisms and systems.

Successful candidates should have a strong background, for example, in molecular and cellular biophysics, biophotonics, non-equilibrium phenomena, or biological engineering.

While the scope of the position is broad, the new Assistant professor is expected to have a strongly experimental approach to research. Their research can span spatial scales ranging from single molecules and proteins to multicellular systems.

The position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level which is full-time fixed-term entry-level faculty position on the Aalto University tenure track. NBE is committed to fostering an inclusive environment with diverse faculty members. Women and others underrepresented in the field of this call are particularly encouraged to apply.

Role and requirements

The position is open to individuals with a doctorate in physics or a closely related field. The new professor is expected to build and lead an internationally recognized research group and establish an ambitious research program in the burgeoning research field of Living State Physics.

The new professor shall actively engage in education in this field at the NBE department and also wider at Aalto University and should participate in the development of our curricula at Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels.?

Research at the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering encompasses multiple disciplines. While we are looking for a new faculty member with strong competence in their own field, we equally emphasize the importance of being able to appreciate and learn about other fields of study. We also value the curiosity and courage to engage in interdisciplinary work, thereby crossing levels of description ranging from single molecules to systems level.?

The Otaniemi campus offers a comprehensive research infrastructure, including:


	The Aalto University Nanomicroscopy Center provides access to high-resolution electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, and X-ray scattering instruments for soft, hard, and biomaterial sample imaging and characterisation.
	Micronova is part of OtaNano, Finland's national research infrastructure for micro- and nanotechnology. It is run jointly by VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) and Aalto University. Its mission is to develop innovative, enabling technologies, and to apply these in practical micro- and nanosystems. Research at Micronova focuses on micro and nanotechnology, material and device physics, and optics.
	Aalto Neuroimaging (ANI) Infrastructure is hosted at NBE. ANI houses functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) at Advanced Magnetic Imaging (AMI) Centre, magnetoencephalography (MEG) at MEG Core, and behavioral and psychophysical measurement systems at Aalto Behavioral Laboratory (ABL).
	Computational infrastructure comprised of Triton high-performance computing cluster, CSC– IT Center for Science, and LUMI supercomputer.

	Aalto University in general and NBE in particular have well-established connections to University of Helsinki and Helsinki University Hospital. These connections provide excellent opportunities for translational research and for developing clinical applications.

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in IC Design and Computer Architecture. Candidates must hold a PhD in this field or a closely related field with a strong research background. Relevant international experience is an advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes.

Teaching Responsibilities

In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach graduate courses in MCS and undergraduate courses in the CSE bachelor program. The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduct is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes).

Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures on the following modules:


	Computer Architecture?
	Hardware Description Languages & Verification ?
	VLSI Design?
	Digital System Design?
	Fundamental courses in related areas?


The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may requires conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects.

The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses and mentoring PhD students.

Research Responsibilities

We expect the successful candidate, as a faculty member of a research-oriented university, to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of computer-aided design of ICs & systems, verification, simulation, system on chip and AI in IC design. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable.

Administrative responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Computer Science Program by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies.

Qualification

Candidates must hold a PhD in Computer Engineering or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor will be a plus, as will experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology. Other requirements include:


	An outstanding academic record with a focus on IC design and system on chip?or other areas closely related to it?
	Proven expertise in design for testability, verification techniques, gate array,?design partitioning and SoC integration of components ??
	Strong track record of successful research activities and publications in?international and peer-reviewed journals in the related area?
	Proven teaching experience with strong self-motivation combined with a passion?for teaching and research?
	Experience in industry is an advantage ?
	Proven excellent English proficiency:?
	Candidates who are from non-native English-speaking countries should include?one of the following valid English proficiency certificates; IELTS 6.5, TOEFL?548(PBT), TOEFL 84 (iBT), TOEFL 212 (CBT), CEFR level B2 or Aptis level?C1 at the time of application submission. The Public Health Research Center (PHRC) at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking a Research Assistant Bioinformatician with experience in population genetics and machine learning to join its team. The ideal candidate will have experience in bioinformatics, whole-genome sequencing data analysis and predictive modelling. The role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary research environment alongside epidemiologists, geneticists and computational biologists. The PHRC is focused on understanding the factors influencing health outcomes and traits related to the most common non-communicable diseases in the UAE. This is achieved by investigating and integrating diverse data sources, including epidemiological, clinical, genetic, and multi-omic data.
