institution

Ashoka University is a private institution funded by the "collective philanthropy" of more than 200 founders. It is based in Sanipat, Haryana, India.

It was named after Ashoka, an Indian emperor from the third century BC.

It was established in 2014.

At undergraduate level it offers 12 pure and 11 multidisciplinary courses. Critical thinking, one of nine foundation options, is compulsory.

Prospective students are tested via an application form, the Ashoka Aptitude Assessment and an on-the-spot essay before a panel interview.

Other programmes include the Flagship Young India Fellowship which are one-year residencies in liberal studies and the INHERIT project which connects students to traditional Indian cultures, starting with the culinary arts and national heritage.
