Afyon Kocatepe University is based in the city of Afyonkarahisar, popularly known as Afyon.

It was established in 1992 on the basis of the Afyonkarahisar Finance and Accounting School, which was founded in 1974 and became an affiliate of Anadolu University in 1987.

The university has four campuses.

It has faculties of education, art and science, fine arts, law, economics and administrative science, engineering, sports science, technical education, theology, tourism, the Bolvadin Faculty of Applied Science, 11 vocational schools and four high schools.

The university has a wild animal hospital.
