Abrar University is based in the Somali capital city of Mogadishu. It was established in 2014.
Its colleges of medicine, health science, veterinary medicine, agricultural science, economics and management science are located in the Hodan district. New courses introduced in recent years include food engineering and technology, information technology, nursing and midwifery and medical laboratory science.
The university offers career mentoring for students who offer one-to-one career support for students throughout their programme. Mentors will be either alumni, academic staff or other professionals relating to different career paths. There are also study and career counsellors who are available for students to discuss their studies or future plans. 
The university also offers mental health counselling for all students. 
The university has formed partnerships with the Federal University of Parana, Brazil, the University of Kent’s School of Bioscience, four Turkish universities, others in Egypt and Sudan, Egerton University in Kenya, and Jigjiga University, Ethiopia.

The role 

Applications are invited for a full-time research assistant position, upto 12 months (possible extension of 18 months) duration starting as soon as possible.

The post is part of the project that aims to develop digital twin frameworks within the Wind Energy sector with novel AI predictive maintenance algorithms for fault-tolerant, intelligent estimation of Remaining Useful Life of wind turbine components. The role will encompass activities related to wind farm operations and maintenance, including life cycle data analysis, impact assessment, and integration with renewable energy systems. The position will encompass modelling of Wind Turbine components, conducting Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis of Wind Farms, and developing AI-driven predictive control strategies for optimizing wind farm performance and reliability. Additionally, the role includes documenting findings in formal reports and contributing to the development of high-quality journal and conference papers and other necessary outputs. The research will be carried out with collaborators from several industrial and academic institutions within the wind energy sector. A budget for travel expenses will be provided.

About you

This is a Research Fellow position, so the successful candidate must have a strong background in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and should hold a minimum MEng degree.?

You need to have good programming and experimental skills. The candidates should be motivated and enthusiastic to work in a team environment and should have experience in communicating findings in journal papers.

The appointee will join the Software Defined EV and AV Laboratory at the School of Engineering at the University of Surrey, which has research interests in a wide range of topics, including active vehicle dynamics, electric powertrains for electric and hybrid electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, infrastructure, batteries, renewable energy as well as costing and sustainability.

Our BME Department is the newest department in the Faculty of Engineering, but it has already grown into global academic excellence (e.g. world #11 in 2024 Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects - Biomedical Engineering) and consistently ranked No. 1 in Hong Kong.

We are inviting applications for the post of Research Assistant Professor (RAP) in the Biomedical Engineering Department to engage in a project related to artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted image analysis for bioinformatics and medicine. The project is highly interdisciplinary, involving areas of microfluidics, fluidic mechanics, biomedical imaging, and machine learning.

Requirements

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in the STEM field, such as biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering and applied physics, with a solid academic background in biomedical imaging and AI and an excellent research track record.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong academic track record as evidenced by publishing in high-profile journals or conferences. Proficient in both written and spoken English is required. Solid postdoctoral training is essential but applicants with exceptional research achievements will be considered case-by-case. Experience in leading research projects independently is required, and success in research grant applications will be considered an advantage.

Research Directions 

This RAP position is dedicated to working and developing technologies for the label-free mechanotyping of stem cells and biomedical image analysis. This project is based on our prior foundation of deformability cytometry and microfluidics engineering. Through the already-established collaboration, this study will pave the way for upcoming clinical trial and support the translation of Hong Kong’s scientific excellence into societal impacts. The specific aims and deliverables of research projects will be discussed with the PI, considering the applicant’s expertise, interests, and prior experience.

Responsibilities

The appointee’s roles and contributions include:

(a) Carry on the proposed project under the lead of the PI (Prof. HO Yi Ping, Megan) and Co-I: specifically, the appointee will (i) co-supervise RPg students working on the project; (ii) collaborate with biologists/doctors to explore the applications; and (iii) prepare conference/journal manuscripts and drafting patents.

(b) Generate high-impact research outputs that are equivalent to the 4* research output in RAE: the appointee is expected to have cross-field working experience to support the multidisciplinary nature of this project.

(c) Apply for external grants from RGC/NSFC/ITC/etc.: The appointee will be fostered to be an independent researcher with a good track record of securing external grants. The research results from this project are expected to strongly support the appointee in applying for and securing external grants.

Salary and Contract Details

Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for three years, starting as soon as possible, renewable subject to funding availability and performance.

The Department has a vibrant and collaborative research culture spanning clinical, health, and cognitive psychology.

The role will involve close collaboration with colleagues across the School as part of the NIHR Research Support Service (RSS), which provides expert methodological and research design advice to health and care researchers across England.

About the role:

The role is divided between supporting the delivery of funded clinical trials within the Psychology Department and contributing to the mental health and neuroscience focused NIHR Support Service Hub hosted by King's College London and Partners.

You will play a key role in the innovative NIHR program grant, REFUEL-MS, which is developing and evaluating a tailored digital treatment to help individuals with multiple sclerosis effectively manage their fatigue. You will be involved in analysing data and preparing publications for other trials, such as the PACT-AM trial, evaluating personalised acceptance and commitment therapy for Parkinson's disease, and the evaluation of the COMPASS online psychological treatment for individuals experiencing psychological distress related to long-term health conditions.

As part of the NIHR Research Support Service Hub hosted by King's College London and Partners, you will be fully immersed in a dynamic team dedicated to research methodology in mental health and neuroscience. This hub is committed to helping researchers improve people's lives by understanding how to prevent mental health difficulties and find better treatments. As a member of the NIHR RSS hub at King's, you will collaborate with a diverse team of methodologists to provide support, advice, and expertise to researchers, especially those applying for and receiving NIHR funding, especially fellowships, with a focus on quantitative aspects of the design.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/03/2028.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	A PhD in a relevant field, such as statistics, biostatistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
	Experience in the design, analysis, and interpretation of clinical trials, particularly in the field of mental health research.
	Familiarity with regulatory requirements for clinical trials, such as Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Clinical Trial Directive 2001/20/EC.
	Proficiency in statistical software and programming languages (e.g. R, Stata).
	Ability to offer guidance to researchers in shaping the statistical aspects of designing research studies (e.g. power calculations).
	Experience collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, fostering a culture of teamwork and knowledge sharing.


Desirable criteria


	Previous involvement in the development and evaluation of digital health interventions.
	A track record of publications and conference presentations in the field of clinical trials or mental health research, demonstrating an ability to disseminate research findings to a broader audience.
	Experience in, or a willingness to support, teaching and training in quantitative methods.
	Previous experience with providing statistical consulting to applied health researchers as part of the process of preparing a grant application.

The Dickson Poon School of Law is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer to join the School and its core team for the Professional Law Institute (PLI). The PLI is the centre for practice-focussed legal education at the School and is responsible for the design and delivery of an innovative, vocational law programme called the MSc Law and Professional Practice.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible, as part of the PLI team, for the design and delivery of innovative, practice-oriented programmes, including the MSc Law and Professional Practice (MSc).

The successful candidate will act as module leader for the role holder’s core module(s) on the MSc and be responsible for the design and setting of all assessments on that module. The role holder will teach and lecture on a variety of modules on the MSc programme and/or the School’s LLB/LLM programmes.

The successful candidate will work with the Director of the PLI and the PLI team to drive the growth of both the PLI and the MSc Programme. They will maintain engagement with law firms, chambers, in-house lawyers and/or other industry stakeholders to promote the MSc programme and will work with the PLI team and the School to market the programme.

The successful candidate will promote the School and PLI through attendance at relevant professional and academic conferences. They will contribute in a significant way to the administration of the MSc programme.

This is a post on the Academic Education Pathway, which emphasises teaching, scholarship and innovation. Successful candidates will have excellent teaching and course design skills, as well as experience working in the legal profession.?

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Executive Dean.

	Qualification as a lawyer in a common law jurisdiction and at least two years’ post-qualification experience as a legal professional.
