According to Sir David Bell (What are you reading? , 25 January), ※Gordon Brown was Britain*s most cerebral modern prime minister§. Another contender is surely Harold Wilson, who was both an economist and an applied statistician. Indeed, at receptions if he could flawlessly say ※I am a former president of the Royal Statistical Society§, he would enjoy another drink.
