Kennet and Avon Canal builders use an Archimedean screw at Hungerford to help repair a wooden culvert. This picture is one of hundreds to be archived online by the Waters Trust at a cost of £650,000. The Heritage Lottery Fund has contributed £400,000. The project is to be completed in 2004, when records from 15 archives dispersed throughout the UK will be available free from one website.
