Clarke bids for university vote
Conservative leadership candidate Kenneth Clarke this week promised a compact between the state and universities. His personal manifesto to Tory members said: ※I want to end the alienation of the Conservative Party from the universities." Mr Clarke*s rival, Iain Duncan Smith, did not mention higher education in his manifesto.
Britain to woo foreign students via internet
The British Council has chosen a consortium led by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service and Hotcourses to develop a website for international students. The site, due to be launched in spring 2002, will offer a comprehensive, searchable list of courses along with advice on visas, fees and accommodation.
Scottish research finds window on web
The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council will next month launch a pilot website to showcase Scottish university research. The site, , will let business, funding bodies and research partners find out about researchers, projects and the latest advances.
