V-cs press new government for more cash
Vice-chancellors lost no time today in pressing the government for more cash for universities after Labours second landslide election victory. Baroness Warwick, chief executive of Universities UK, said: Universities are already working hard to increase access to higher education for those from under-represented groups. But this cannot be done on the cheap this expansion is expensive, and universities need resources that fully match these additional costs.

University of East London names new leader
Michael Thorne, vice-principal of Napier University, has been appointed vice-chancellor of the University of East London. He will take up the post in December, succeeding Frank Gould.
