Members of the European Parliament have rejected amendments to a European directive that universities claim would have stopped them from exploiting their intellectual property. The amendments would have forced universities to make the information they generate, such as research papers, generally accessible and to charge only for the cost of reproduction. The European Universities Association also lobbied against the amendments to the European directive on the re-use and commercial exploitation of public-sector documents.
