You suggest that art history may be considered (albeit unfairly) a ¡°soft¡± subject (The week in?higher education, 31?October). In Trinity College, Cambridge¡¯s list of preferred subjects, however, it is considered a ¡°generally suitable¡± arts discipline alongside English literature, history, Latin, Greek and modern languages. Art history has an eminent intellectual tradition stretching back to the 19th century and is?certainly not a ¡°non-traditional¡± subject.
