MIT's policies are more liberal, not more restrictive, as Sir Alec Broers states. Intellectual property associated with independent research lies with the inventor or author, not with MIT. The proposed intellectual property rules for Cambridge, as I understand them, would result in the intellectual property for independent research ending up with the university.
