I appreciated the report of my move to Birmingham University to take up the chair of war studies (Inside Track, November 17).

But I would like to clarify that I was not the sole winner of the 2003 Templer Medal; rather, I contributed to the volume that won the prize.

My appointment is part of the university's investment in the war studies field. It has launched an MA in the Second World War this year, and a BA in war studies is due to commence in 2007-08.
