Apprenticeship myths 2

November 16, 2007

As a supporter of good-quality apprenticeships, I agree with Terry Watts that they are due more serious consideration (※Apprenticeships could be an irresistible pitch§, November 9). But they need to offer not only good careers but work-based progression. We are too constrained by the three-year full-time course as the route to a degree and by apprenticeships limited to level 3 qualifications. A work-based route, including progression to degree level, is surely a proposition that would be taken seriously.
