Brown promises cash injection for science
Chancellor Gordon Brown pledged a funding boost for science in the new spending review when he last night opened the National e-Science Centre based at Edinburgh University. The centre, to be run jointly with Glasgow University, is a key part of the government*s e-science programme.

The new Sector Skills Council network will receive nearly ?30 million in the next financial year (2003-04) 每 three times the amount invested in the National Training Organisations in their final year, adult skills minister John Healey said.
Professor warns: close 'gulf' between clinicians and scientists
Jonathan Rees, Edinburgh University*s professor of dermatology, has called for more clinical research, warning that medical research is now dominated by biology at the expense of patient-oriented studies. Writing in the American journal Science, Professor Rees says there is a growing gulf between clinicians and basic scientists.
