Humanities should be funded as part of the European Union's research programme, according to the British Academy in a report to the European research commissioner Philippe Busquin.

"It should be included with the social science programmes," said an academy spokesman. Planning is under way for the EU's next four-year research strategy, Framework Programme 6.
