51吃瓜 has announced the appointment of Iain Evans as its new chairman.

Evans, the co-founder and chairman emeritus of LEK Consulting, succeeds Chris Stibbs, who had held the role for the past six years.

Evans has served as a non-executive director on THE’s board since 2019 and his appointment as chairman caps a longstanding association with the company, including via a series of advisory positions.

“Iain is one of THE’s most enduring champions, having supported THE in a variety of roles – most recently as a non-exec director – for over 15 years. Few have a better understanding of the organisation’s mission,” said John Gill, THE’s chief executive.

“Alongside his deep strategic and global experience, Iain’s personal commitment to the organisation and the part it plays in global higher education makes him the perfect fit, and I am looking forward to working with him as our new chairman.”

Evans founded LEK in 1983 and built it into a global management consulting firm with more than 2,000 staff across 22 offices. He was made a CBE in 2013 for his achievements at the company and for services to the UK Ministry of Defence’s review of acquisition and procurement.

“I am delighted to be appointed chairman of THE, which is a true global brand with many exciting opportunities ahead,” said Evans, a graduate of the University of Bristol and Harvard University.

“The chance to play a more significant part in the development of the business is a huge honour.”

Evans will help steer the growth of THE under the ownership of Inflexion Private Equity, which acquired the company in 2019. Last year?THE was?recognised in the King’s Awards for Enterprise,?for its contribution to international trade.

THE’s world-leading offering of news, analysis and data attracts tens of millions of online readers every year, with its influential suite of global university rankings drawing the participation of more than 4,900 institutions from 143 countries. The company also provides data products, consultancy, branding solutions and recruitment support.

Evans’ appointment completes a new leadership team for THE, following the promotion of former editor Gill to chief executive in March.

Gill also paid tribute to the contribution of Stibbs, a former chief executive of The Economist, saying he had “contributed a great deal to the business, not least as it navigated its way through the extraordinary turmoil of the Covid pandemic”.
