On telephoning the Lord Chancellor's Office to inquire as to the coming into operation of a recent Act of Parliament, I was told by a lady with a pleasant Irish brogue that it would happen at different dates for different sections.

I inquired why this was. Her answer was "Heaven only knows."

Should one take this as an indication of Lord Irvine's current view of his residence?
