Harriet Swain made perfect sense in suggesting that as lecturers we must involve students in the knowledge-making process ("Ready to furnish tools of thought", September 28).
But isn't that what a university education is all about - developing independent thinkers through critical pedagogy rather than stuffing sausages in a sausage factory?
