No legitimate British university gives credit for life experience ("I'd like one doner kebab and a PhD to take away", THES, November 15). Awarding credit for experiential learning involves academically rigorous assessment, normally of a portfolio and narrative argument. Similarly, the PhD by publication applies equal standards to the thesis-based route.
