I had to laugh in disbelief at Roger Brown's article misleading entitled "We must get back to basics" (Soapbox, THES , April 13). It was about deciding on a quality assurance framework rather than "basics", namely some intelligent agreement about the purpose of higher education and its contribution to economic growth.
