I see that prominent free-marketeer James Tooley is congratulating new Labour for "thinking the unthinkable" with plans to, in effect, privatise the authority to award degrees.
One thing puzzles me about Professor Tooley. Why is he still a senior academic at a tired old state institution such as Newcastle University when he could be out there riding the dynamic wave of private higher education?
