The Federal University of Lafia is one of the group of nine new federal universities created to ease pressure on existing institutions.

It serves the state of Nasarawa, bordering the federal district of Abuja in Nigeria.

Students can study at faculties of arts, science and social science, agriculture, computing, basic medical science, education, management science, environmental design, health science, clinical science and the school of medicine

The university has two campuses with the main campus being a 206 hectare site on Makurdi Road.

The Centre for Disabilities Studies serves as a hub for additional needs in north-central Nigeria.
