The university has occupied several locations in Plymouth city centre since 1856, now settling in their current undergraduate campus location, Tavistock Place.  
The campus has been designed with artists, designers and makers in mind. In the last few years, the university has invested in digital and analogue improvements to improve the teaching facilities for students. 
The approximately 2,000 students have access to workshops with specialists and collaborative spaces in 2D, 3D, 4D and digital formats. 
The campus is about a 10 minute walk from the city centre, close to coastline, countryside and nightlife.

The University of Surrey is delighted to announce a renewal of the Surrey Poetry Fellowship, as part of the institution’s longstanding commitment to establishing Guildford as a centre for the creation, performance, publication and study of poetry.

This year’s poet in residence will build upon the legacy of the university’s first teacher of poetry, Morag Morris, and the work of previous Surrey Poetry Fellows, Amy De’Ath, Sophie Robinson, Stephen Mooney, Jessica Pujol, Nicholas Johnson, Prudence Chamberlain, Jow Lindsay-Walton, James Davies, Verity Spott, Robert Kiely, Karenjit Sandhu, Briony Hughs and Peter Jaeger.

The Poet in Residence will play a key role in organising the Surrey Poetry Festival, will organise five or six regular poetry workshops for students and possibly other members of the university and beyond, will introduce the guest speaker at the Morag Morris Poetry Lecture, and may participate in other projects within the Department. The postholder’s first objective, however, will be to write poetry which engages with the research culture in the department, particularly in the field of contemporary and innovative literature. The Poet in Residence will also convene and teach the 1st Year Understanding Poetry module offered by the Department of Literature and Languages.

The current expectation is that the post-holder will need to be present on campus to deliver the poetry workshops (five to six spread across both semesters) as well as to teach classes on the Understanding Poetry module on one or two mornings or afternoons per week over Semester Two (February to May 2026), as well as convening the module (this will involve responding to student queries about the module via email in a timely fashion and having a regular online office hour for student consultations). The teaching semester is 11 weeks long.

Overall, this part-time post will amount to appx 65-70 hours for poet in Residence work, plus module teaching hours over the course of the academic year amounting to appx 49 hours.

An honours postgraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification is required. A postgraduate qualification/teaching qualification would also be desirable. Teaching experience and event management experience is essential. Good organisational and IT skills are necessary as well as the ability to work independently.

This is an exceptional time to be joining the University of Southampton Information and Cyber Security team within the University’s IT department, iSolutions. The Security team is uniquely placed to advise, support, and defend the University against security threats.

About the Role

You will take a leading role in securing the Secure Data Research Environment, providing specialist expertise in information and cyber security to protect sensitive research data and ensure compliance with security standards. You will work closely with colleagues across the University to monitor and analyse security systems, respond to incidents, address vulnerabilities, and implement security measures.

You will also be responsible for supporting the University’s preparation for and maintenance of cyber security accreditations, including Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO/IEC 27001.

The role is currently remote with future flexible options.

What you’ll do

· Work with colleagues from the University to Lead efforts for the Secure Data Research Environments Cyber Security accreditations (e.g., Cyber Essentials/Plus, ISO/IEC 27001), coordinating audits, managing documentation, and implementing remedial actions.

· Provide support in maintaining security operations by managing and updating security policies and procedures, conducting vulnerability assessments, and implementing security patches and updates.

· Oversee remediation of risks from security scans and tests, ensuring alignment with risk appetite before production. Conduct risk assessments for on-premise and cloud-hosted solutions, identifying control gaps and residual risks using frameworks (e.g., CIS Top 18, NIST Cyber Security Framework, ISO 27001).

· Lead on efforts relating to the Secure Data Research Environments Cyber Security accreditations, including Cyber Essentials/Plus and ISO/IEC 27001.

· Provide expert guidance on policies, standards, industry regulations, and best practices. Offer consultation on Secure by Design principles and information assurance. Develop IA strategies, policies, and awareness programs.

· Identify, analyse, and evaluate information risks across various projects and systems. Communicate the causes, likelihood, and impacts of information risks to stakeholders.

· Maintain awareness of evolving cyber security and regulatory landscapes to inform risk management and governance.

What you’ll bring:

· Experience of information and cyber security within a large organisation.

· Knowledge of current information and cyber security issues and opportunities, including knowledge of security frameworks.

· Experience of with security tooling, particularly within a mixed Windows, Linux, Mac and Cloud environment.

· The ability to present your ideas and your specialist area, to a wide and potentially non-technical audience.

· The integrity required to work with both commercially sensitive and personally identifiable information.

The Electric Drives Group is now looking for postdoctoral researchers in the following fields:


	Electric machine drives
	Power converters (emphasis on grid-connected and hydrogen systems)
	Physics-informed AI applied to machine drives and power converters


Your role

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will advance next-generation technologies in electric machine drives and power converters. Your research will be tailored to your expertise, spanning from hardware design to system-level optimization and control methods. For the AI position, you will develop machine learning models that incorporate physical principles of machine drives and converters. You will also have opportunities to contribute to our open-source computational tools, teach master-level courses, and advise doctoral students. Our strong industry connections will provide you with opportunities to see your research implemented in real-world applications.

Your background and expertise

For the electric machine drives and power converter positions, you should have a recent doctoral degree in electrical engineering, control engineering, or a related field. For the physics-informed AI position, a doctoral degree in computer science or applied mathematics is also acceptable. The successful candidate will have expertise at least in one of these areas:


	Theoretical understanding and hands-on experience with electric machine drives or power converters
	Control engineering (experience with nonlinear systems is a plus)
	Machine learning and deep learning in context of physical systems


Programming skills are required, with Python experience preferred. A good command of written and spoken English is essential for our international research environment. We value candidates who are collaborative team players, intellectually curious, and open to exploring new research directions. A track record of publications in recognized journals and conferences in the field is expected.

? Scientific environment

The Electric Drives Group conducts cutting-edge research on electric machine drives and power converters. Our work spans from fundamental modelling and analysis to advanced control design and system optimization. Our specialty is developing embedded control, estimation, and identification algorithms that directly interface with physical hardware. We work closely with industry partners. Our research has led to several methods now used in commercial products. We are part of the Research Council of Finland Centre of Excellence in High-Speed Electromechanical Energy Conversion Systems, the Finnish Center of Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) Special Interest Group in Energy, and the Aalto University Hydrogen Innovation Centre.

The expected starting salary for a postdoctoral researcher is approximately 4,000 €/month and salary will increase with responsibilities and performance over time. The Programmes and Projects Office, a new department at the University of Surrey, is looking to recruit 2 Project Partners. It’s an exciting time to be joining us here, as the Programmes and Projects Department is becoming established and taking on new pieces of work aligned to our 2041 strategy.

Project Partners facilitate smooth and efficient project planning, management and delivery, and foster an environment of continuous improvement and innovation. They help to ensure that programmes and projects align with the University’s objectives and are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. About you

We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced individual with project management experience. Experience of working in HE is also an advantage. You’ll have experience of building relationships and contacts with a wide variety of colleagues and will demonstrate personal credibility when dealing with senior stakeholders. You’ll be able to work autonomously where needed, applying judgement and initiative when managing your workload to meet the long-term objectives of the project.

You’ll have a relevant degree or significant vocational experience, and the ideal candidate will also have a project management qualification.
