Student numbers in Scottish higher education institutions rose by around 1 per cent in the current session, according to provisional figures from the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council. There were just under 116,000 full-time equivalent students eligible for funding, with the largest group, around 19,000, in science, followed by business and administrative studies at 16,100.
