Britain's oldest working journalist, 101-year-old George Fraser, has been awarded an honorary MUniv degree from his alma mater, Aberdeen University.

Mr Fraser, who still writes a weekly column for the local Press & Journal, is also Aberdeen's oldest living graduate, completing his MA in 1917. He left with the intention of becoming a teacher, but a chance conversation with a fellow student made him consider journalism, and he became a sub-editor on the Daily Journal at a salary of 25 shillings a week. Mr Fraser's journalistic career has spanned almost 80 years, including producing a weekly column since his official retirement in 1961. Apart from two years at the Liverpool Daily Post, Mr Fraser spent his entire working life in Aberdeen, becoming a chief sub-editor, editor, and literary editor. Earlier this year he was awarded an MBE for his services to journalism.
